That’s an interesting question to ask as the biggest driver of success for any company these days is technology. Companies are now forced to compete with tech companies, not just individually, but by identifying which sectors will best position their organizations to gain an advantage.
Even as many established companies seek to get an edge on the competition with innovation in consumer products and consumer tech, the tech sector is also bringing out innovations that ultimately benefit all businesses. To identify those best-in-class technologies, I looked at a technology’s ability to set the industry apart.
Taking an entirely different approach than Amazon and Microsoft, for example, Amazon is using its tech advantage to be an advantage for the entire industry, helping establish new industries and streamlining efficiencies across their business.
Microsoft, on the other hand, is using their technology advantage to enhance consumer technology and give users an advantage. By looking at the very best companies today in technology, a company can gain an advantage in their business.

Technology is always a barrier to an industry. It is not the enemy. In most industries there is an advantage, just like with technology.
