The historic 1972 Arrows football team celebrated its 50th anniversary reunion last month. The team is the first in school history to win a football championship (Overall Little Dixie Conference championship), as well as the first to win ten games in a season. Twenty-seven of the thirty-nine living players attended the event, which was held at Lake Caroline.
Head coach James “Booty” Sloan was recognized, along with the six deceased players.
Fifteen players on the squad’s 45-man roster signed either NCAA Division I or II football scholarships. The ’72 Arrows (10-1) defeated Mendenhall 7-0 to capture the 1972 Overall LDC crown at Roy Burkett Field.
